Traditions of Jazz is a nonprofit organization based in Central Wisconsin, dedicated to celebrating and preserving the vibrant legacy of traditional jazz. Inspired by the rich musical heritage of New Orleans, we bring the joyful spirit of collaborative music-making to our community through live performances, educational programs, and storytelling. Our mission is to honor the great composers and performers of the 1920s, ’30s, and ’40s by sharing their music, history, and cultural impact with audiences of all ages. Whether you're a lifelong jazz lover or a curious newcomer, Traditions of Jazz hopes you join us in keeping this timeless American art form alive and swinging.
Traditions of Jazz invites you to join our fundraising efforts to help build the foundation for our future programs. Please follow us on social media, and enjoy reading our “Learning Out Loud” blog, where we’ll share stories, behind-the-scenes updates, and educational content that brings the world of traditional jazz to life. There are many ways to support our mission, and become part of a growing community that values the joy, history, and cultural richness of this timeless music. Together, we can keep the spirit of early jazz alive and thriving in Central Wisconsin.
What’s Happening at Traditions of Jazz?
As we head into the final quarter of 2026, we’re excited to invite you to our ongoing Trad Jazz Jam at Great Northern Distilling in Stevens Point!
Join us on Wednesday, November 18, and December 2 (a rescheduled date) for an evening of live music, collaboration, and community, hosted by A Joyful Little Band.
The music kicks off at 6:00 PM with an hour-long set by A Joyful Little Band. Then, the band takes on the role of host and facilitator, welcoming fellow musicians to join in the playing and singing. The evening unfolds in a relaxed but organized atmosphere, building toward the musical spirit that makes New Orleans jazz so special: collective improvisation!
Whether you’re ready to take center stage or simply sit back and enjoy the music, there’s a place for you at the jam.
Come listen, come play, and be part of the tradition!
